Project Description

MeterTrust is a platform that brings trust and support into the energy payment ecosystem. This is done by bringing smart meter readings on-chain where consumers and suppliers can verify them. In case of disagreement a third independent authority is involved to confirm that a reading is valid. Consumers are then presented with two options to cover their bills: payment in stablecoins or requesting a donation from peers. The latter requires a consumer to provide information about themselves, which can be attested by a trusted third party. In this way, the most vulnerable people can benefit from the peer-to-peer economy to support them in their most basic needs.

How it's Made

At the core of MeterTrust are two smart contacts deployed on multiple chains. Users log in via Dynamic with their email and password data, which enables inclusion of less web3 savvy audience. Upon login, MeterTrust leverages the power of World ID, which confirms that the user is a unique human. After this, the users are presented with the readings from their smart meters (the transfer of the readings into MeterTrust is out of scope of this MVP), which they either confirm or reject. Upon this action, the readings is sent for validation to the supplier. In case of disagreement, the reading is sent to an external authority - validator - who approves or rejects the reading. The approved reading is final (rejection is out of scope of this MVP). The user is then presented with the option to pay the bill in stablecoins or to request funding from peers. The payment is done via Celo MiniPay app or Gnosis pay. If the user selects the funding options, they are presented with a screen where they can provide information about themselves and share that for confirmation via a hyperlink. The attestation results are stored on chain. Peers willing to cover the user's bill can use the same link to access the payment options.
