Project Description

Numerous worlds have already been crafted using the MUD engine, with a promising wave of future creations anticipated. Each of these unique worlds harbors its own set of metrics that hold significance within their respective domains, encompassing scores, levels, and achievements. These metrics serve as influential drivers, shaping the behaviors and interactions of the world's participants, and acting as the very foundation upon which the world can prosper and flourish. However, these vital metrics often remain confined to their specific worlds, lacking broader meaning beyond isolated and segregated systems. Our vision was to liberate this valuable information, return it to the users who generated it, and enable them to traverse diverse autonomous worlds, leaving their mark along the way. To realize this vision, it was imperative to establish mechanisms for sharing the achievements and accomplishments of individual users across the expansive MUD ecosystem, transcending the boundaries of closed environments. Thus, we developed a web-based MUD on-chain data dashboard. This innovative solution grants users real-time access to the pivotal activities unfolding in each world, empowering them to delve into their own achievements and explore the milestones of fellow users. Additionally, users can uncover trending games that captivate the masses and track the performance of top scorers in specific games over time. Moreover, the sharing of these user records opens avenues to forge connections between traditionally separate and self-contained worlds, fostering novel experiences and interplay. For instance, a user's records and accomplishments in one world may present them with fresh opportunities and constraints when embarking on a new exploration or journey in another world. Consider a user who previously struggled in action games; as they enter a new world, they encounter a distinct set of possibilities and limitations. In this scenario, the new world could enrich their experience by tailoring rules to accommodate this underdog or offering more advantageous armor. Leveraging the wealth of accumulated user information in this manner not only deepens their immersion within the MUD-based universe but also cultivates a unified sense of efficacy across diverse worlds.

How it's Made

The MUD-SCAN solution is distributed as a library that anyone can utilize. World/game developers can utilize the mud.config.ts template to customize and deploy namespaces for their worlds, and developers can add system code to the game's system to allow users to compete and score. This ensures that each world's namespace is stored alongside MUD-SCAN's world, and is accessible and shareable by anyone. MUD-SCAN then uses MODE to invoke and categorize metrics from these stored namespaces in real time and re-present them in a useful form on a webpage. The front end of our solution is built with React.js. For updating and storing profile pictures, we utilized Web3.storage.
