Project Description

Product counterfeiting is a significant issue in which fake and unauthorised replicas of real products are created and sold at lower prices and with lower quality. Electronics, pharmaceuticals, shoes, and other items are common targets for counterfeiting. To address this issue, we developed this application in which product manufacturers (e.g., Dell, boAt, Cipla, etc.) can register on the platform and generate digital codes in the form of QR Codes, which can be used to validate the authenticity However, the issue with QR Codes is that they can be forged. A genuine QR Code can be copied and pasted onto a bogus product. To address this issue, when a manufacturer generates a new digital code, they will receive two QR Codes. One will be a public QR Code, while the other will be a private QR Code. This is analogous to the ideas of public and private keys. The public QR code can be displayed on the product's surface where it can be easily scanned by anyone and will be used to verify the product. To access the private QR, one must first open the packaging, which can only be done after the product has been purchased. Scanning the private QR code indicates that the product has been purchased and cannot be copied any longer. As a result, even if someone tries to use the same pair of public and private QR codes, it will be invalid.

How it's Made

SmartBuys is a decentralized solution for the problem of Product counterfeiting. It is based on the Scroll's Alpha Testnet which provides higher scalability, security, and faster transactions. The state of the product is being stored as a Dynamic NFT which is stored on Filecoin's IPFS. The authenticity of the products is verified using QR Codes which are dynamically generated in a pair of Public and Private QR Codes. This is analogous to the ideas of public and private keys. The public QR code can be displayed on the product's surface where it can be easily scanned by anyone and will be used to verify the product. To access the private QR, one must first open the packaging, which can only be done after the purchased product. Scanning the private QR code indicates that the product has been purchased and cannot be copied any longer. As a result, even if someone tries to use the same pair of public and private QR codes, it will be invalid.
