Project Description

SolarPay is transforming the way you manage and pay your utility bills using decentralized technology. With SolarPay, you can enjoy a streamlined, hassle-free payment experience directly from your mobile device, supporting seamless transactions across multiple blockchain networks.

By connecting directly to your energy device, such as a solar panel, SolarPay automatically fetches and stores your consumption data on-chain, eliminating the need for intermediaries. This allows you to pay for your energy usage as you go, with full transparency and control.

Our larger vision is to leverage verified clean energy consumption data to generate and monetize carbon credits, sharing the profits with the households that produce this clean energy. SolarPay aims to make renewable energy more accessible to households in developing countries, creating a sustainable, decentralized ecosystem that benefits both the environment and the communities it serves.

How it's Made

For this Proof of Concept, we used multiple mini solar panels paired with an ESP32 board to capture real-time energy consumption data. The Raspberry Pi collects the data generated by the solar panel and then logged it to a smart contract deployed on the Celo testnet, Alfajores.

We developed an easy-to-use interface based on Celo MiniPay, allowing users to easily monitor their energy consumption and make payments directly from their mobile devices. This setup is the first piece of our project, showcasing a verified and transparent collection of data from a real-life energy source.
