SplitBits

The primary motivation for this project came from our personal pain of paying debts after splitting expenses with friends. This pain bridged the gap between web2 (Splitwise app for traditional expense tracking) and web3. We didn't want to move from the app we used to use for tracking group expenses but rather to smoothly transit into paying with crypto.

The idea was to create a seamless integration of Splitwise, a popular expense management platform, with Ethereum blockchain transactions through a crypto wallet. This integration aimed to simplify the process of settling debts and expenses recorded on Splitwise by enabling direct payments using Ethereum.

The fronted part uses Typescript, Node.js, Yarn, Next.js, and Node.js. Ethereum blockchain functionality is integrated using Wagmi, RainbowKit, and Hardhat that provides a local blockchain environment, making it simpler to develop and test blockchain applications. Metamask wallet was added as a default crypto wallet but in the future other Ethereum-based wallet can be integrated or added through Wallet Connect.
